Day Treatment Program, also known as Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), is a structured and intensive treatment option designed for individuals dealing with mental, emotional, and/or addictive disorders. Unlike full inpatient hospitalization, this program allows clients to benefit from the comprehensive support of a residential treatment facility while still returning home in the evenings.

The PHP typically requires clients to participate in therapy, counseling, and aftercare support for a minimum of five hours per day, five days a week. The services offered are tailored to meet the specific treatment goals of each individual and may include group therapy, individual therapy, medication management, and creative therapies like art or music therapy for emotional processing.

This treatment option is especially beneficial for those who cannot commit to a traditional inpatient program due to work, school, or family responsibilities. However, it’s essential for participants to have a strong support system of family and friends actively involved in their recovery journey, given the program’s flexibility and less structured nature.

Day Treatment Program provides a range of services, including individual counseling, group therapy, creative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, family therapy, addiction education, solution-focused groups, relapse prevention planning, aftercare plans, after-care groups, personalized treatment plans, and recreational activities.

Day treatment is particularly suitable for individuals who do not require medical detox or hospitalization. It is a viable option for busy parents or adolescents who need to return home at night, and it’s generally more cost-effective than inpatient rehab since clients are not paying for room and board during treatment. This type of treatment is ideal for those with chronic disorders or a history of severe addiction and relapse, especially if they have already completed a 30-day or longer inpatient drug treatment.

The treatment process is highly individualized, with the program’s length depending on the severity of the addiction, mental health symptomology and other relevant factors. Honest communication with the intake personnel is crucial during the assessment process, and in cases of heroin or alcohol addiction, medical detox might be required before starting the day treatment.

Day treatment can be a suitable option if the home environment is stable, clean, and supportive. It provides essential tools and amenities similar to an inpatient facility, with the added benefit of lower costs and the opportunity to return home each night. Checking insurance coverage is important, as most day treatment centers may be fully or partially covered.
